After spending a long time in shrouded in rumors, the existence of the Nexus Prime, has been "accidentally" hinted at by Samsung’s legal department. Odd, as that may seem since Google is taking over Motorola, we presumed the next 'Nexus' branded handset would be announced from their camp. However, in a Cease and Desist letter sent to one individual by the company's legal department, it was accidentally stated that a ‘Nexus Prime leaked firmware’ was in their possession and was ordered to be returned as it is Samsung’s intellectual property and was not meant for public release. Now, since its existence is pretty much confirmed, the only part that remains hidden is the list of specifications. Letter indicating Nexus Prime's existence (image- geek.com)
The smartphone is however rumored to pack in a 4.5-inch Super AMOLED HD display and might be powered with Samsung's own 1.5GHz dual-core Exynos SoC processor which were mentioned in the company's leaked Roadmap for 2011. It is also rumored to be the first device that would be running on Google’s forth-coming Android update i.e. Ice Cream Sandwhich. According to Geek.com, there are various other speculations like an October launch date and Verizon as the US carrier. Of course this is all subject to Samsung being able to launch it there at all. If Apple has their way, like the Galaxy S II, the Nexus Prime might also be left off that continent. Will there be NFC on-board? Or a facial recognition app? Will there be a Qi inductive charging? We don't know just yet. We expect more rumors, speculations and leaks to be out before the smartphone is officially announced by Samsung. Till then, we'll just have to wait and watch. |
