In what seems like a new low achieved by the hackers, a hacker group that goes by the name - The Script Kiddies - have hacked the Twitter account of NBC News. The group took over the Twitter account and posted a message, which read, “Breaking News! Ground Zero has just been attacked. Flight 5736 has crashed into the site, suspected hijacking. More as the story develops.” This hack took place on the 9th of September, 2011, which incidentally is just 2 days before the 10 year anniversary of the horrific terrorist suicide attacks on America's World Trade Centre, among other significant locations. ![]() Hacker's idea of a joke
According to a report by The New York Times, the NBC News Twitter account was swiftly taken down and the news division apologised for the incident taking place. The statement by the news division on NBC Nightly News said, “The NBC News Twitter account was hacked late this afternoon and as a result, false reports of a plane attack on ground zero were sent to @NBCNews followers. We are working with Twitter to correct the situation and sincerely apologize for the scare that could have been caused by such a reckless and irresponsible act.”
According to a report by TheTVNewser, the Script Kiddies have claimed responsibility for the hacking of the NBC News Twitter account and within minutes their account was suspended by Twitter. Let us know your reactions regarding the statements made by these hackers in the comments below. |
