Late Apple co-founder, Steve Jobs has won a posthumous award at this year's Grammys. According to Apple Insider, Jobs was awarded a Grammy Trustees Awards on Saturday. Eddy Cue, Apple Senior Vice President of Internet Software and Services accepted the award on Jobs' behalf. The Grammys Trustees Award goes to an individual who, during their career in music has made significant contributions, other than performance, to the field of recording. The award is presented by the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences. Steve Jobs was presented with the Grammy Special Merit Award for his contribution to the music world via the iPod and iTunes. Posthumously recognized
When Eddy Cue accepted the award on Jobs' behalf, and his speech included Jobs' reasoning for making an iPod in the first place. He said that people asked why Apple would make a device like the iPod. He explained that Jobs believed that it was always good when someone did something they love and Apple decided to make the iPod because they love music. Cue said, "Steve was a visionary, a mentor, and a very close friend. I had the incredible honor of working with him for the last 15 years. Accepting this award means so much to me, because music meant so much to him."
This is not the first time that Jobs has won a Grammy award. Apple won a Technical Grammy Award, back in 2002. He shares the award this year with Dave Bartholomew, who is a New Orleans band leader and arranger, as well as Rudy Van Gelder, an American recording engineer, specializing in jazz. Previous recipients of the Grammy Trustees award, include Walt Disney and Dick Clark. That Jobs would be presented with the award was announced back in December, but would have been formally handed over to someone representing him, only until this past Saturday. |
