A Tunisian court today ordered that access to every pornography and adult website be blocked. The decision was taken following a lawsuit which said that such websites were against Muslim values and were a danger to the youth of Tunisia.

Almost all of Tunisia’s internet traffic is handled by one ISP which acts like a chokepoint. Using this singular point, websites and URL can be instantaneously controlled or blocked. This is not the first time such a step has been taken, as Tunisia was under strict censorship where websites like Facebook and Twitter were blocked.  The online censorship ended when the regime was overthrown amidst violent clashes which led to the then President, Zine El Abidine Ben Ali, stepping down.

The Tunisian government has already asked the Tunisian Internet Agency to block access to specific sites and Facebook profiles, which it agreed to do so and according to Tunisian Business News, seven out of 10 websites visited by the citizens of Tunisia were pornographic sites.
