Cupertino-based, technology heavyweight, Apple, as per reports, has been accused by VIA, the Taiwan-based chip designer of infringing on three of its patents. According to a BBC report, VIA has alleged that three of its microprocessor-related patents have been used by Apple in several of its key products like - Apple TV, iPod, iPad, iPhone and in the software they use too. The patents in question refer to the methodology the chips in the products follow to use, transfer and manipulate data.

According to the report, while there hasn't been any word from Apple in this case, just yet. Wen-Chi Chen, VIA head stated that they were keen on protecting the interest of the shareholders, and their own. Taiwan-based, VIA has approached the U.S. International Trade Commission, and also to an American District Court with the infringement appeal. Reports further suggest that VIA's infringement claims against Apple may have a lot to do with the ongoing patent lawsuits that Apple is fighting with smartphone manufacturers like HTC and Samsung, among others.
