Website of 'social network filtering' petitioner defaced

He set the wheels of social network filtering in India in motion, which subsequently kickstarted one of the most important, headline grabbing court cases in recent times, and now, he faced an attack. A petitioner, an Islamic scholar, Mufti Aijaz Arshad Qasmi can be better referred to as the man who took Facebook, Google, YouTube, Yahoo!, among others to court, for having allegedly permitted their users to post objectionable content on their sites, threatening the peace and harmony in the country.

Reportedly, his website, www.fatwaonline.in, which is run by the Islamic Peace Foundation of India is a platform, on which he guides people on matters related to religion and society has been defaced, confirms Hindustan Times. Hackers, reportedly, also left a message on the site, dated 2012-01-03 and the message read - "Probably best not to piss the social networking sites off." Understandably, the hackers aren't too pleased with Mufti Aijaz Arshad Qasmi pursuing the case against social networking sites.

The message, reportedly was posted on the news and updates section of the website, sometime last week. Qasmi now plans to take this matter up with the police. Reportedly, certain sections on his website are not functioning, as before post the hack. The website, which was inaugurated on May 21, 2006 by the nation's former PM, VP Singh, sees Qasmi hear some 150 cases, each day, pertaining to Islamic law, in addition to issuing fatwa - "a scholarly opinion on a matter of Islamic law", as put in by the report. In his statement, according to this report, Mufti Aijaz Arshad Qasmi stated that, "Fatwaonline.in, besides guiding people on matters related to religion and society is also a very forceful means of rapport building between Islamic Peace Foundation of India and  common Muslims. The defacement of the website had affected large masses which were facing problems in getting their disputes solved online."
