App tracking website, WindowsPhoneAppList, have announced that the Marketplace for Windows Phone now includes more than 30,000 applications, according to a report by BGR. In the last two weeks itself, around a thousand new Windows Phone 7 applications have been launched.

As part of the reports, WindowsPhoneAppList have confirmed that majority of the Windows Marketplace is currently occupied by free apps, most of which are in English. To throw in a few numbers, 47 percent of applications are free as opposed to 20 percent that are trial apps and 33 percent of paid apps. Also, 75 percent of all the applications in Windows Marketplace are in English. This definitely caters to a wider range of consumers, which is a good sign.

Games occupy 17 percent of the Marketplace share as compared to 14 percent occupied by news and weather apps. This is further substantiated as the top five paid apps currently in the Windows Marketplace are Angry Birds, Fruit Ninja, Sonic the HedgeHog 4: Episode 1, Need for Speed Underground and Cro-Mag Rally, all of which are games.

Whilst this may definitely be dwarfed by Apple App Store’s more than 500,000 apps and Android’s more than 200,000 app listings, it’s definitely a sign that Microsoft’s new mobile OS is taking strides in the right direction.
