German Online retailer r-computer has listed a Sapphire Radeon HD6950 1GB edition, which has sparked speculation about a cheaper alternative to the original 2GB 6950. The high-mid range card has been receiving a lot of praise, but a lot of the potential buyers have been put off by the price. A 50% reduction in VRAM should put quite a dent on the card’s price, which might just put it in reach. A tad more affordable, perhaps? r-computer has it listed as being available in a couple of weeks and at 245 euros, while the original 2GB version is priced at 266 euros. In India, the XFX 6950 has an MOP of Rs. 17,325 which means a similar price drop would put the 1GB version at around Rs. 15,000 which is a pretty sweet spot. Either way, that’s only if the listing is accurate and manufacturers actually do come out with 1GB versions. We’ll have to wait and see if that happens, but we certainly hope it does. |
