We’ve been talking about it over the last couple of weeks and only yesterday, MSI launched their R6990 card. We also heard the news a week back that press images were being sent out. Today, however, AMD officially unveiled the new dual-GPU monster. Priced at Rs. 44,990 and above, in India, it’s one of the most expensive cards around but that’s what you pay for a 4 GB monster. In India, you’ll be able to buy them from Sapphire (Aditya Infotech) and XFX (Rashi Peripherals). The two Cayman cores (3,072 stream processors) are clocked at 830 MHz and there’s 4 GB GDDR5 of memory at its disposal. The power requirements are over the top, too. While PCI standards say that a graphics card shouldn’t consume more than 300W of power, the HD6990 needs a maximum of 375W on load. AMD claims that the Radeon HD6690 is the fastest card around and we most definitely don’t doubt them. We’re looking forward to reviewing this monster in our labs and also looking to see whether NVIDIA responds with their dual-GPU GTX590. |
