Megagames has reported that Nvidia is expected to announce its first DirectX10 card the Geforce 8800 (codenamed G80), in the middle of November. The card is expected to ship with Shader Model 4.0 support and will reportedly sell in two variants, the Geforce 8800 GTX and Geforce 8800GT. The GTX is expected to be priced at $649 and the GT will retail at $449 respectively. An interesting point to note is that the GTX model will sport a hybrid water and air cooler and something called 7 TCPs. What the term "TCP" stands for is unknown at this point. Here is the expected list of updates that can be expected in the new series of cards. - Unified Shader Architecture; - Support FP16 HDR+MSAA; - Support GDDR4 memories; - Close to 700M transistors (G71 - 278M / G70 - 302M); - New AA mode: VCAA; - Core clock scalable up to 1.5GHz; - Shader performance: 2x Pixel/12x Vertex over G71; - 8 TCPs & 128 stream processors; - Much more efficient than traditional architecture; - 384-bit memory interface (256-bit+128-bit); - 768MB memory size (512MB+256MB) An interesting note to remember is the fact that DirectX10 will be compatible only with Vista and will not be released standalone for use with older OS’s like XP and 2000. |
