Jon Peddie Research: GPU Sales Dip in Q4 2010

01 Feb, 2011, 2:57 pm IST | by Rossi Fernandes | Graphics Cards

Jon Peddie Research (JPR), a market research company announced results of GPU sales for the fourth quarter of 2010. The research showed that PC GPU shipments didn’t rise as per expectations. There was only a 4 per cent rise as compared to 10 per cent in the previous year. In all, over 113 million GPUs and GPU-integrated processors were sold in the final quarter.
GPU unit sales didn't meet expectations in Q4 2010

In Q4 2010, Intel led in the number of shipments because of its Atom sales in netbooks, but it also saw the largest drop in market share. AMD and NVIDIA saw a growth with AMD taking 11.2 per cent and NVIDIA taking 2.9 per cent. AMD has stated that 26 per cent of their sales came from the graphics solution sales. JPR says that although Q4 2010 saw a slide, the introduction of DirectX 11 into mainstream systems and the introduction of Intel’s Sandy Bridge and AMD’s Fusion should make 2011 a more fruitful year.
