A Windows Phone 7 release has been slated over the weekend for Mirror’s Edge and Gun Bros, both popular gaming titles on other platforms.
Mirror’s Edge is a 2D side-scrolling platformer based on a game by the same name released on PC and major consoles. In the game the player controls a runner named Faith, who has to run and perform acrobatic stunts while traversing the city and avoiding the city’s corrupt authorities. ![]() Run, Faith!
Mirror’s Edge is a Nokia Lumia exclusive, so it won’t be available for other devices running Windows Phone 7. The game is available for $2.99 on the Nokia Collection section of the Windows Phone Marketplace.
Gun Bros is a top-down arcade shooter where the game throws hundreds of enemies at the player. The game features many different upgrades for weapons, armours and bonuses. The game also has options for multiplayer gaming.

Gun Bros has been released for all devices running Windows Phone 7, and is a freemium game with micro-transactions.
The original Mirror’s Edge was released for PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. It wasn’t a huge success, even though the concept was novel. The game had you free running through rooftops and subway stations with a good sense of speed. It was plagued with many problems though, some of which were in the level design. The levels were very linear and there was only one way through any segment. The clunky and annoying combat didn’t help the game’s cause either.
We have reviewed the PC version of the game. In the end, the choice is simple. If you’ve played Mirror’s Edge before and thought it was a mediocre game, move along. If you really liked the game, pick up the PC version simply from a cosmetic point of view. If you’ve never played the game, head down to the nearest store and pick up the PC version. It looks gorgeous, plays really well and ships with the game’s soundtrack that is very good.
Mirror’s Edge was a tricky beast to review. It brought a ton of new stuff to the table but was hampered by cliched problems such as trial and error gameplay, and an erratic difficulty curve and save system. Split second reflexes are the only thing that’ll prevent Faith from being a splatter on the ground, and sticking around to fight more than one enemy at a time will more often than not get you killed. |
