| Indian Skype users will now have access to the newly unveiled Wi Fi phones from SMC Networks. The technology provider will release its first wireless Internet mobile phone - SMCWSKP100 simultaneously with the international release of four other Wi-Fi models for Skype. The wireless phones have the capacity to make or receive free internet calls without a PC in addition to making calls to ordinary landlines and mobile phones using SkypeOut at a very low cost. Other features of the SMC WiFi phone include an internal Li-Ion battery which gives three hours of continuous talk-time and 30-hour standby. Moreover, the device can be charged from any USB enabled socket and has inbuilt mechanism which helps connect to Skype via any free WiFi connection that does not require browser authentication using the 802.11 standard. The phone is expected to hit the Indian market in the third quarter of 2006. |
