The mobile retailer Geek IT as started a new customer registration portal for handsets with a genuine IMEI (International Mobile Equipment Identity) number. Their customers can register the number that will then be sent across to COAI and Telco providers. This is all in aid of the government ban on handsets that don’t have the IMEI, like the fake Chinese models that are so freely swimming around. Some of the handsets that do have the number have also proven to be fakes. So with a concern for safety, the Geek IT stores have being this system. Telecom service providers like Airtel, Vodafone, BSNL have started deactivating fake IMEI handsets as the deadline was April 30th.At this point of time the amount of Chinese fakes that are in the market are estimated to be about 30 million. via TopNews.in |
