Google pulls Nexus Q, will fulfill all preorders without charge

Google is postponing the launch of the Nexus Q. The device was available for preorders on the Play Store for $299, but it seems the search giant is not satisfied and is looking to improve on it. Google recently sent out an e-mail to all who had preordered the Nexus Q stating that the device has been delayed and a "preview" device is being offered for free instead.

The e-mail states that Google received much feedback about the Nexus Q devices that were given away at Google I/O, and in response, the company has "decided to postpone the consumer launch of Nexus Q" while it works on "making it even better."

The e-mail goes on to state, "We'd like to extend the Nexus Q preview to our preorder customers and send you a free device. If you had other items in your order, your credit card will be charged for those items only.”

Unveiled at the Google I/O conference in late June alongside the much better-reviewed Nexus tablet, the orb-shaped Nexus Q enables you to stream media directly from the cloud to your playback devices. For those of you in the dark about what this device is all about, the Nexus Q allows you to use the Google Play and YouTube apps on your Android phone or tablet to surf and play music, TV shows, movies and videos on TVs, music players, computers etc. There are no downloads, no syncing or running out of space. Users can choose a song from the Google Play Music app on your phone or tablet and play it instantly on the Nexus Q.

However, it’s important to know that the Google Play Music hasn’t officially come to India. Users can upload up to 20,000 of their songs for free. Music Manager uploads your iTunes or Windows Media Player library to Google Play, so that your collection is available anywhere, anytime. Streaming is not related to music and you can watch your movies on your HDTV with Nexus Q. That feature as well, sadly, has still not been announced for India and we have doubts that it will be coming any time soon.

Nexus Q has an audiophile-grade amplifier built-in so you can hook your speakers right up, or use an optical or HDMI cable to connect Nexus Q to your AV receiver or HDTV. Once you’re playing, you can control the volume from your phone or tablet or simply by turning the top half of Nexus Q. You can touch the top LED to mute the sound completely. Your device can connect to multiple Nexus Qs and you can choose what music you want to play. The Nexus Q comes with 32 LEDs that shift and change colour in time to the music.

The price of the tablet could also change given the fact that many previewers found it expensive. Hopefully, this media streamer will be available in the market sooner than later.
