Microsoft to Launch Windows for Set-top Boxes?

| by Sriram Gurunathan | HD Media Players

Microsoft just don’t know when to quit, do they? After numerous failures on the TV battlefield, the software giants are now back at war. This time with Apple and Google, as they plan to launch a Windows OS for set-top boxes, according to a report by the Seattle Times. Seattle used to be home of the SuperSonics, is home to the Mariners and most importantly, is an hour’s drive away from Redmond, where Microsoft’s Headquarters are located.

Windows Set-top Box?

The new set-top boxes will feature a watered down version of Windows with the Media Center interface, basically making us lean towards the possibility that they will probably try and combine TV and online content. The predicted price for these set-top boxes is around Rs. 9,000 ($200). We'll probably find out more at CES.

Well the devices are not likely to ever make it to India, but it’s still gotta be pretty fun watching three huge companies like Google, Apple and Microsoft battle it out just for a place in our living rooms.
