When I reviewed LG’s 55-inch LX9500 I thought it was a big TV, but now LG has gone a step further, launching a 72-inch LED HDTV at CES 2011. Sources say that the LZ9700 is an LED backlit TV which is capable of 3D playback and has the functionality of a Smart TV, which will include apps like Netflix, and Vudu. It also has the Magic motion remote which has functionality akin to the Wii remote. These TVs are all big and grown up now Sharp has also acted pretty fast by launching the LC-70LE732U, which is its latest Quattron LED-backlit model. This doesn’t seem as exciting as LG’s mammoth offering, but it does seem pretty attractive. This TV has a 70-inch screen and incorporates Sharp’s proprietary quad-pixel technology, which adds yellow to the usual RGB colors. One thing that the LC-70LE732U lacks is 3D playback, and this comes as quite a surprise, as a lot of companies are working hard to make sure that 3D home viewing is the next big thing. However, this TV does have built in Wi-Fi, which comes as quite a decent consolation. So here we have to gigantic TVs with no price to back them up. However, I’m pretty sure they’ll be quite expensive. Sharp says that their monster will be hitting stores somewhere in May, but LG hasn’t said anything yet. |
