Gesture-based Angry Birds app comes officially to Samsung Smart TV

| by tech2 News Staff | HDTVs

Angry Birds, the popular smartphone app has now officially arrived to the Samsung Smart TV, as the South Korean giant announced the global availability of the app on its platform, today. The best part, however, is that playing the game on the Samsung Smart TV is a button-free affair, as Samsung’s Motion Control technology gets into action here. Using gestures like the wave of the hand, users can pull the sling an also activate the unique skills of each of the birds. In its official statement, Samsung further claims that it is the first Smart TV game to have been developed to work with Motion Control.

The South Korean giant is known to have worked quite closely on this, together with Rovio over the past year to use its technology on the popular game for Samsung Smart TVs. The post further adds that, "Launching worldwide in July, the Angry Birds app for Samsung Smart TV will be available on Samsung 2012 Smart Interaction enabled models by updating the latest firmware. Samsung plans to offer Video-on-Demand Angry Birds animations developed by Rovio after the official app launch. The animations will be available first on Samsung Smart TVs."Angry Birds on Samsung Smart TV

Kyungsik Lee, Vice President, Visual Display Business says, "Samsung Smart TV will become the first TV to offer the world’s most popular game and set a new standard in the industry by offering a game for Smart TVs controlled by hand gestures. Samsung will continue to develop various content that bring family members together in front of the TV, allowing consumers to enjoy new experiences via Samsung Smart TVs."

The game continues to be one of the most popular apps to be around today, and only recently the company announced that they reached their one billionth Angry Birds download. Rovio reached their billionth download yesterday but didn't specify who the billionth downloader was, which particular Angry Birds game it was or which platform the billionth download was acquired on. The download count, however, includes all platforms and all the Angry Birds games that Rovio has made which are: Angry Birds, Angry Birds Seasons, Angry Birds Rio and Angry Birds Space, as well as the free, light versions of the games.
