Report hints at prototypes of the iTV in carriers' labs

The Apple iTV may have been a well kept secret, after Hogwarts. But, as everyone knows Hogwarts doesn’t actually exist and in all probability the iTV may not as well. This question about the existence of the Apple HDTV has been circulating on the Internet for quite a few months with analysts stating that it would come out sometime this year or by next year. What added fuel to these rumours was when Steve Jobs told Walter Isaccson that he had found a way of creating an integrated television set. As per a report by The Globe and Mail, it appears that this mythical television is actually in existence with prototypes of the television being in two Canadian carriers’ labs.

The website states sources have informed them that, “Apple has approached Rogers and Bell as it actively pursues partnerships with Canadian carriers.” Sources have added that, “They’re not closed to doing it with one [company] or doing it with two. They’re looking for a partner. They’re looking for someone with wireless and broadband capabilities.” Another anonymous source has informed them that the two carriers – Rogers and Bell apparently already have prototypes of the iTV in their labs.

The report goes on to state that Jefferies analyst, Peter Mesek in a research note stated that this television set will be interoperable with mobile devices and at the same time will be able to function as a gaming platform. This may come as no surprise, especially for the former, as in the past reports have suggested that the television would be able to be controlled by iOS devices as an additional remote control, apart from it being able to be controlled using one’s voice.

Shedding more light on what this television may contain the website states, “Viewers can then control the TV by voice or hand gestures, all from the comfort of a couch. An on-screen keyboard, meanwhile, can also be activated in a similar manner, allowing viewers to surf the web, conduct video chats and use social media sites such as Twitter and Facebook – all without any physical interface.”
