Steve Jobs wanted a television without complicated remotes

Rumours about Apple planning a television set for a few months have been doing rounds and even in Walter Issacson’s biography on Steve Jobs, the co-founder himself said, “It will have the simplest user interface you could imagine. I finally cracked it.” Analysts have been speculating that Apple will launch a television set by next year, but details are slim on what unique features this television would possess. According to a report by MacRumors, Walter Issacson shed a little more light on the subject in an interview with the New York Times.

Walter Issacson says that he did not go into the details about this product in the book, because it was implicitly Apple’s creations and it’s not fair to the company to reveal these details. However, he went on to state that Steve Jobs did speak about the television and told him that he’d ‘licked it.’ He goes on to say that Jobs once said, “There’s no reason you should have all these complicated remote controls.”

It is expected that the Apple television would be based on Apple’s iCloud service and be Siri-enabled. Thus fitting completely with Jobs’ description of removing the need for remote controls as Siri is a voice- based service. The report goes on to state that besides televisions, Jobs was also working on photography and textbooks as his next area of focus.
