Epson has launched its EH-DM3 home projector that represents the latest generation of Epson’s innovative “home-theatre-in-a-box” models that integrate a DVD player and speakers into the projector’s body, allowing users to enjoy an instant cinema experience without the need for any further device to be attached or turned on.

The concept for this “all-in-one” projector was first introduced in 2005 when Epson launched the EMP-TWD1. This projector was the first to integrate a DVD player and speakers into a single device.

Key feature improvements that differentiate the new Epson EH-DM3 from its immediate predecessor, the Epson EH-DM2 are its improved brightness and lamp life, as well as a new HDMI input capability. The most significant improvement of the Epson EH-DM3 is the introduction of Epson’s Auto Iris Technology that optimises the projector’s contrast under different lighting environments and helps it achieve a 3000:1 contrast ratio, which is significantly higher as compared to 300:1 for its predecessor. With this technology, users can enjoy movies even more as the projector is capable of producing deeper blacks and brighter images.

Epson’s proprietary 3LCD technology offers full-time colour projection with three separate LCD panels (Red, Green and Blue) ensuring smooth projection of image without colour breakup, distorted image patterns and visual fatigue, making it ideal for usage in home theatre environment. The three chip engine also delivers bright images and accurate colours that give a touch of realism in every image depicted.

The proprietary Epson Twin Optimized Reflection Lamp (E-TORL) features an elliptically-shaped reflector that helps to improve energy efficiency by 20%, resulting in significant energy savings and prolonged lamp life as compared to conventional lamps. Users enjoy cost savings through lower electricity consumption and more reliable projector system with longer lamp lifespan.

With an integrated DVD player and 10-watt surround sound stereo speakers, the Epson EH-DM3 serves as a convenient, portable “instant cinema” - users simply need to connect a single power cable to the projector and it is ready to play. The Epson EH-DM3 automatically senses the ambient light level in a room and selects the most appropriate theatre colour mode to suit. It can even sense the projected image and adjust the vertical keystone to give a sharp, square image.

The newly developed colour processing algorithm featured in the projectors reproduces primary colours from input source to projected images with precision, resulting in more accurate and natural colours. The built-in version 1.3a HDMI interface of the projectors is capable of transmitting nearly double the amount of information as compared to previous HDMI versions resulting in the expansion of colours in display.

With its USB Display feature, owners of the Epson EH-DM3 can now do away with the usual, bulky VGA cable as it is able to accept images from a PC through a USB cable. Users can even share JPEG images as a slideshow from inserted USB memory devices without a PC.

Priced at Rs. 49,900, the Epson EH-DM3 home projector will be soon be available.
