ZOTAC's ZBOX VD01 to pack in dual-core VIA CPU

08 Oct, 2011, 10:35 am IST | by Roydon Cerejo | HTPCs

ZOTAC, famous for their graphics cards and small form factor PCs, have announced a new affordable addition to their line-up called the VD01. We've already reviewed the nano AD10 Plus, which we really liked, but found it to be a tad on the expensive side. This new version should be cheaper. The form factor remains pretty much the same, but this time, ZOTAC have ditched the Intel and AMD chipsets for VIA's new Nano X2 U4025 dual-core CPU with its built-in Chrome media processor. We don't have any pricing details on this little beauty right now, but expect it soon, along with an official launch in India.

The new chip from VIA runs at 1.2GHz and is based on the VX900H chipset. The built-in graphics processor comes with ChromemotionHD 2.0, which supports full hardware decoding of Full HD videos including Blu-ray, MPEG2, H.264, VC1 and streaming video formats. The box supports HDMI and DisplayPort and also features a memory card reader, Gigabit Ethernet jack, Wi-Fi 'n', two USB 3.0 ports and is HDCP ready. The bundled components include 2GB DDR3 RAM and a 320GB hard drive and ZOTAC also bundles a media center remote and a VESA mount bracket.
