MSI to add SSDs to PC component portfolio soon

It seems as if MSI will soon be selling SSDs as well, according to an entry on SandForce's website. A list that includes all vendors that are currently selling SandForce certified SSDs also features MSI, although no specific model numbers have been revealed yet.

MSI is a major player in the PC component arena and are famous for their motherboards, graphics cards and notebooks. This is not the first time the Taiwanese company has ventured into storage solutions, as it has used its own custom designed SSD RAID solution for their high-end gaming notebooks. 

Will soon start selling SSDs

On January 4, 2012, LSI Corporation completed the acquisition of SandForce, Inc., the leading provider of flash storage processors for enterprise, cloud and client flash solutions and solid state drives (SSDs). SandForce is now the Flash Components Division of LSI. All SSDs that use the SandForce controller are denoted with a logo on the packaging. The 'SandForce Driven' logo signifies the best-in-class SSD reliability, performance, and power efficiency that differentiate SandForce-based SSDs from other standard SSD products and also includes their award-winning DuraClass technology. DuraClass technology represents a set of NAND flash management features that work in tandem to deliver world-class SSD reliability, performance, and power efficiency that differentiate SandForce SSD Processors from standard flash controllers. Of particular importance is the use of processing elements to optimally overcome a number of the inherent issues associated with commodity NAND flash memory.

Some of the features include:

• DuraWrite, which optimizes the number of program cycles to the flash, effectively extending flash rated endurance by 20x or more when compared to standard controllers.
• Powerful flash media error correction (ECC) and RAISE (Redundant Array of Independent Silicon Elements), which deliver an orders-of-magnitude improvement in drive reliability versus today’s best enterprise HDDs and SSDs. The result is single-drive RAID-like protection and recovery from a potentially catastrophic flash block failures – all while avoiding the inefficiencies of traditional RAID.
• Advanced Wear Leveling and Monitoring - Optimized wear leveling algorithms, further extending flash endurance
• Advanced Read/Program Disturb Management, which safeguards against errant re-programming of cells during read and program cycles
• Recycler, which intelligently performs garbage collection with the least impact on flash endurance.

With this news, it seems we can now expect future MSI notebooks and other All-in-one PCs to feature their own branded SSDs inside.
