Gmail Beta No More

08 Jul, 2009, 8:34 am IST | tech2 News Staff | Windows

Google has lifted the 'beta' tag from consumer and enterprise versions of Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Docs and Google Talk.

Gmail has worn the beta tag more than five years now and Google maintains that ever since Google Apps suite for businesses was launched two years ago, it's had a service level agreement, 24/7 support, and has met or exceeded all the other standards of non-beta software. More than 1.75 million companies around the world run their business on Google Apps, including Google. So it just seemed right to take the 'beta' tag off the products.

'Beta' will be removed from the product logos today, and Google will also be announcing some other Apps features targeted at large enterprises.

For those who are used to and like the look of the "beta" tag, Google's made arrangements to re-enable the beta label for Gmail from the Labs tab under Settings.
