Jabalpur Service Wins E-governance Award

The Jabalpur district collectorate in Madhya Pradesh has won the National Golden Icon Award for its Telebhugtan or telephonic payment service.

The award, meant for the innovative usage of technology in e-governance, was conferred on Thursday at the 11th National Conference on e-Governance at Panchakula in Haryana.

The Telebhugtan service was started under a public-private participation plan in June 2006. Bills based on IVRS can be paid through the Telebhugtan service by using any telephone.

Any one who has a Bank account can sign up for Telebhugtan. A fee of Rs 2 is charged per transaction, which makes it the cheapest way to pay bills by sitting at home.

The Telebhugtan ID issued to a customer is virtually locked with his/her Electricity Service Connection Number or Telephone Consumer Number, ensuring total security.

If a customer is out of town, he/she can pay bills from anywhere in the country over STD.
