Another social networking site, wallops its way into the already crowded market. Wallop.com, a company spun out of Microsoft was introduced in its beta form at DEMOfall to reveal an invitation-only network that combines a social networking site with a business model for select user groups.

Karl Jacob, CEO and founder of Wallop said, "After taking a long, hard look at social computing, it became clear that it is not simply about the technology, which has been limited and plagued with problems to date. It's about the trend of self-expression moving online, creating enormous demand for easy and limitless customization and an enlightened social experience where the user is in control."

Wallop offers free, one-click customization and helps users to further enhance their online image by purchasing ready-made, interactive graphics and features, called 'Mods', from Adobe Flash developers and designers. Moreover, since registration on Wallop is based on invitation, it is relatively safer. It gives its members the ability to select people they want to chat with and to control their environment. Members can also maintain individual control over what can be seen on their profile and have ability to reveal different content to different viewers. In addition, people can share music, pictures and commentary across their networks.
