Adobe launches Reader for iOS

18 Oct, 2011, 11:37 am IST | by Padmini Harchandrai | iOS

Among Apple's many battles, Adobe is one of the more famous one, when Jobs criticized Flash saying that the program was fine for PCs but the mobile world has to move past it. Flash has since been banned from the iPhone and iPad. Now, to make life a little easier, however, Apple's approved of an Adobe Reader app for iOS. Adobe has ported over the software experience of its Reader program via an app for iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad users. This will allow iOS users to view, access, interact with, share, and print PDF files wirelessly (with AirPrint) from their iPhones, iPod Touch and iPads.

Anuj Gupta, project manager at Adobe, explains, "Now you can quickly and efficiently view the widest range of PDF file type — including PDF Portfolios, password-protected PDF documents and Adobe LiveCycle rights-managed PDF files." The app is available for free from the iOS App Store.

It is compatible with the iPhone 3GS and later, the third generation iPod Touch and later and the iPad. It requires iOS 4.2.5 or later. Once you've downloaded the app, you can open PDF files from any other application, including email, which support the "Open in..." action. Ways to interact with PDF files include reading text annotations, searching text to find specific information, zooming in on text or images, navigating large files using thumbnails and copying text to the clipboard.
