Apple plans to rent out apps to prevent piracy

Apple is still on its adamant track to prevent jailbreaking and pirating apps, even though it's not technically illegal. They're taking into account that most people pirate apps to try them out, instead of spending a whole dollar on an app they don't even know if they'll use. For these pirates, Apple brings a new offer to the table. In the strings of the new iTunes Beta, it looks like Apple is planning on creating a rental scheme for apps from the App Store. The apps will have a rental period and will be automatically deleted, once the rental period runs out.

Don't bend it, rent it

The strings seem to be the same that iTunes uses for movie rentals, with the word 'movies' being swapped out for 'apps'. If, Apple is indeed going to put out a rental system for apps, it's interesting to think about what kind of schemes, they'll put out there. If an app is a dollar to buy, will they rent it out for say, 10 cents for a week? Or would they do free rentals? And would they have seperate rental schemes for iPad apps versus iPhone and iPod Touch apps? We'll have to wait and see.
