Bing launched an iPad app which has a design that is very customized to the iPad experience. It's function is very similar to the Google app, which offers access to search, maps and news, but visually, takes searching on the tablet to the next level. Like Bing on the web, the iPad app lands on a visually rich page with high resolution images. On the bottom of the screen are tabs that take you to weather, news, movie information and more. There are also tabs for Trends which, using high resolution images, shows you the day's top headlines.
Uses high resolution images to lay out trends.
Bing on the iPad has also gotten rid of the back button. In addition to being a visually rich browser for the iPad, Bing has introduced swiping for page movement. This seems like a move on Microsoft's part to almost get rid of both Safari and Google usage on the iPad. The app really is visually striking and could potentially be a threat to Google's search app on the iPad, but to negate the use of a browser? That's a battle that will be interesting to watch. |
