Google Places and Whatsapp got some new features in their respective iOS apps. Google Places for instance, now allows you to filter results by distance, rating and price. The results will also show you whether places are already open and/or when they will open. So for instance, if it's late at night and you want to get some dinner, the closest place will be displayed, perhaps, as 2 kms away but the closest open place could be displayed 5 kms away. The app also, now lets you read full reviews of places by Google users. The Google Places app (and of course the update, as well) is available for free from the iOS App Store. Whatsapp too got some changes. However, iOS 3.1 users (and below) are warned not to update their Whatsapp applications yet. The conversation font size can now be customised by going to Settings > Chat Settings > Font Size. There is a display divider in group conversations to indicate new or unread messages for that group chat. You can also show recent group locations on the map together by going to Group chat info > Recent Locations. Some updates have been added to the media browser like date seperators, the ability to delete and more. A custom notifications option per group is available with a mute option. They've fixed a crash in long URL handling in iOS 4. You now have options to control audio and note playback source from earphones, receiver or built-in speakers. They've fixed crashes on inviting many contacts via email/SMS and improved verifications security. Whatsapp is available from the iOS App Store for $0.99 or Rs. 44. Whatsapp on iOS |
