Microsoft launches cloud storage iOS app

Microsoft has gone a step further in cooperating with rival Apple's iOS platform and has released an iOS app for SkyDrive, its cloud storage service. According to the Huffington Post, this is the second app Microsoft has pushed into the iOS App Store; the first being My Xbox Live. SkyDrive allows you to store your photos, music, and documents in the cloud, as well as upload and download files. You can share a link to any file via e-mail. To access SkyDrive, you need a Windows Live ID (Hotmail, Messenger or Xbox Live).

Cloud services that run on iOS devices, like Dropbox and iCloud, already exist. The free version of Dropbox brings you 2GB of cloud storage, while for $9.99 per month (about Rs. 499) you get 50GB of storage and for $19.99 per month (about Rs. 999) you get 100GB of storage. The iOS app is free to download and works on iOS 3.1, and above. iCloud brings you 5GB of free storage with added charges for additional storage space. However, the program is limiting, because you need iOS 5 to access it. SkyDrive brings you 25GB of free storage. The app is available for free from the iOS App Store and requires iOS 4.0 and above.
