CES 2013: Toshiba's new $800 Satellite Ultrabook not quite a budget option

| by Shunal Doke | Laptops

Toshiba has unveiled a new touchscreen Ultrabook primarily aimed at those on a budget. According to Engadget, the Ultrabook, dubbed the Satellite U845t, sports a 14-inch touchscreen and with a resolution of 1366 x 785. It will be available on March 10 for $800, which roughly translates to Rs 43,500. The Satellite U845t is the first tablet by Toshiba aimed towards those looking for an Ultrabook on a tight budget, but we feel the price tag of $800 is a bit too much to earn the 'budget tablet' tag.

The Ultrabook weighs 4 pounds and has a thickness of 0.8-inches. The specifications include a Core i3 or Core i5 processor with up to 6GB of RAM and a 500GB hard drive with a 32GB SSD thrown in for good measure. It sports an HDMI port, an Ethernet port and an SD card slot along with one USB 3.0 and two USB 2.0 ports.

Back in June 2012, Toshiba had unveiled the U840W—the first Ultrabook that had the rather strange aspect ratio of 21:9. The 14.4-inch screen of the U840W had a resolution of 1792 x 768 and was aimed towards people who want more screen real estate. It measured 20.8mm in depth and weighed 1.57 kg. It was powered by Intel's 3rd generation Ivy Breidge CPUs and could support up to 10GB of RAM.
