Taiwanese company ECS is planning to launch a slew of products at the Consumer Electronics Show 2011 at Las Vegas. These products include notebooks, an eBook Reader and a Tablet PC. ECS at CES - could this be the birth of a new tongue twister? The MB40 and MB50 notebooks will be powered by Intel Core processors and will feature 14-inch and 15-inch screens respectively. These screens will be LED backlit and will run at a resolution of 1336x768. The notebooks will also feature 6-in-1 cardreaders and various optimization options. The E-series Classmate PCs will employ an Intel Atom processor along with a 10.1-inch display and 160GB hard drives, available in both SSD and disk drive variants. It will boast of a 1.3 Megapixel rotating camera and will include wireless connectivity options such as Wi-fi and Wimax on a 9 hour rated battery life. The ECS eBook Readers will come in 9.7-inch, 8-inch and 6-inch screen variants with finger touch displays. They support both Android and Linux Operating Systems and various document formats. Connectivity options include Wi-fi, Bluetooth and 3G and the devices will also feature a music player. ECS also plans to launch Tablet PCs, cashing in on the sector’s popularity of late. The Tablets will vary in sizes from 10.1-inch to 7-inch and will feature both Android and Windows-based Operating Systems. The Windows-based tablets will be powered by an Intel Atom processor and will support Wi-fi, Bluetooth and 3.5G. The Android variants will be powered by Marvell and Samsung processors and will feature the same connectivity options. This year’s CES seems chock filled to the block with products, which can only be a good thing, really. The Tablet market is really heating up though, and while some of those announced might end up doing well, it’s hard not to feel sorry for the ones who do not come out of this unscathed. Either way, only time and 2011 will tell. |
