Lenovo announces ThinkPad X1 Carbon; world's thinnest Ultrabook

| by Roydon Cerejo | Laptops

Lenovo recently announced a whole bunch of new notebooks and among them, the X1 Carbon stands out the most. Lenovo says it’s the world’s thinnest Ultrabook measuring just 18.8mm in thickness; however, it’s not the lightest. At 1.8kg, it’s actually quite heavy when you consider the other notebooks in the market. The 14-inch Ultrabook is said to feature Intel’s Ivy Bridge processors and going by the name, is made up mostly of carbon fibre. This makes the notebook extremely durable and relatively light as well. Lenovo haven’t announced any pricing for the Ultrabook, yet, but say that it will be available starting this summer.

Created for those who demand the highest levels of performance, mobility, entertainment and design, the ThinkPad X1 Carbon exceeds Ultrabook specifications by using a premium carbon fiber roll cage to create a durable Ultrabook. Other premium features, include 3G connectivity for anywhere, anytime access, Lenovo RapidCharge for a near-full battery charge in 30 minutes, and Intel vPro technology for manageability.

We crafted the ThinkPad X1 Carbon with premium carbon fiber material in order to make it incredibly thin and light, yet durable,” said Lu Yan, senior vice president, Think Product Group, Lenovo. “Our new ThinkPad laptop portfolio embodies much of the innovative thinking exemplified in the X1 Carbon, such as a backlit keyboard, super-bright high definition display, Dolby Home Theatre and rich communications features that balance business performance with personal use.

Unlike the Dell XPS 13, which had an exposed carbon fiber base, you won’t be able to see the actual material as the outside is covered with a rubberized coating. The keyboard is backlit and features Lenovo’s ‘sculpted’ keys for better typing. You also get a finger print scanner, USB 3.0 ports, miniDP, SD Card slot and a 14-inch screen with a 1600 x 900 resolution. The trackpad also seems different as it’s a lot wider making it easier to track or scroll long web pages.
