At the E3 Expo in Los Angeles, Sony Computer Entertainment recently the announced the upcoming release of a 24-inch 3D PlayStation monitor. The 3D Display will also come bundled with 3D glasses and an HDMI cable. The features of this PlayStation display will include 1080p edge LED lit LCD with two HDMI inputs, stereo speakers and an integrated subwoofer. The 3D Display features a full HD 1080p LCD display and in an industry first for its size, the display adopts quad-speed frame sequential display technology that is able to minimize crosstalk distortion, delivering stunningly realistic 3D viewing experiences. The 3D Display supports several 3D formats.

Sony says that the display features a high contrast ratio of 5000:1, wide viewing angle of 176 degrees and other features which will aid in giving a high-quality image in stereoscopic 3D, as well as in 2D. There is also a special feature for two-player mode where it uses Sony’s proprietary technology that allows two players in a multiplayer game to view individual, unique as well as full screen images of the game while using the 3D glasses. The PlayStation 3D monitor has a slim design where at its thickest is a mere 35 mm. The bundled up 3D glasses have a rechargeable lithium ion battery and Sony claims that a three minute recharge will be sufficient for three hours of usage, while a 45 minute recharge will be able to be used for up to 30 hours. Other features of the PlayStation 3D monitor will include a quick start-up mode and a power saving mode.

The PlayStation 3D display bundle will be available worldwide from September 2011. The price in the US for the bundle is $499; prices worldwide will be released at a later date. The 3D glasses can be purchased separately as well for $69.
