DMC resurrects the DeLorean, going electric in 2013

DMC or the DeLorean Motor Company, is a name that’s synonymous with science fiction and has been for over two decades and counting. Their iconic DeLorean Time Machine used in the cult classic 1985 movie Back to the Future and its 2 sequels that followed will forever be etched in any sci-fi lovers brain. Of course the vehicle in question was seriously tweaked out by Doc Emmet Brown, scientist extraordinaire to handle the rigours of time travel. However DMC didn’t really make too many of the famed car for retail and the once famous vehicle settled back into quiet retirement post the company going bankrupt.

Still as slick as ever

That’s all about to change now as DMC has just announced that the iconic DMC-12 will be making a big comeback in 2013. In collaboration with a start-up company called Epic EV, the company has decided to resurrect the famous car. The new version of the DeLorean will however be electric. It’ll be tricked out with all the latest gadgets that perhaps even Doc Brown and Marty would find impressive – an iPod dock, built-in GPS, leather interiors… what no Flux Capacitor? Can’t have everything I suppose.

According to autoblog.com, the new age DMC-12 could hit maximum speeds of 125 miles per hour with a 260 horsepower electric engine that’s still being developed. They estimate the price to be somewhere in the $90,000-$100,000 range. It’s still as slick as ever and although it’s going to go way faster than 80 miles per hour, you won’t literally cross the time barrier but owning this car could be like revisiting the past.
