Hotels Get Sick of Missing Towels; Install RFIDs

Some hotels are clearly sick of guests treating their linen as freebies. Some have started embedding specially made RFID tags in their linens to protect guests from their loose fingers. The chips are designed by Linen Technology Tracking, a Miami-based company. They're sewn directly into sheets, towels and bathrobes and can apparently withstand up to 300 washes.

Towels aren't for the taking

When someone takes a tagged item off of hotel property, it trips an alarm that will alert the hotel staff and some method of humilitating the stealing party will be performed. One Honolulu hotel has already saved about $15,000 (approx Rs. 6,75,000) with these RFID chips.

However, there are only three hotels total that have started tagging their linen. There's one in Honolulu, one in Manhattan and one in Miami. They've chosen to remain anonymous so do keep a watch on your slippery fingers the next time you're tempted to steal from your hotel room.
