| At WWDC, Apple apart from introducing its updated Mac Pro desktop series also previewed its upcoming operating system upgrade Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard. The following new features were introduced: Time Machine - A backup programme that automatically backs up the system and features a three-dimensional user interface for finding deleted files. It seems to be similar to Microsoft's System Restore but more evolved. Spaces - A new feature on the Mac that has been around for ages on Linux and windows. It gives the users four alternative desktops to work. When it comes time to switch, it presents the different desktops as quadrants and lets you move from one to the other. Web Clip - Lets users save live content from Web pages for quick viewing as Dashboard widgets. Program enhancements to existing programs included to-do lists in the company's e-mail program, special effects to iChat and search enhancements in the Spotlight program. As expected Leopard also incorporates the full version of Boot Camp boot utility, which allows users to run both Mac OS X and Windows on the hardware natively. The current bootcamp version is a timebound version and was designed as a stop-gap measure for public beta testing. |
