iWeb, the web hosting and building program that was a part of MobileMe might be dying out. Apple's ditching MobileMe for iCloud, but it doesn't seem to be taking iWeb on board. There seem to be a lot of factors in the hate against iWeb. For starters, it hasn't been updated since iLife '09. For another, MobileMe users hated MobileMe. Also, iWeb came out at a time when web hosts like Wordpress and Tumblr weren't out or were barely cracking open their shells. Static websites were more commonplace then, and not too many people had needs for dynamic websites. That's all different now, of course. They're killing it
The way it came out that iWeb didn't make it over was a user, Giles Turnball wrote in to Steve Jobs. This is what the conversation looked like:
Q: Dear Mr. Jobs, Will I need to find an alternative website builder and someone to host my sites? I have invested a lot of time and effort and the thought of re-training sucks more than mobileme ever did. A: Yep. Sent from my iPhone
Since Apple's killing MobileMe in June 2012, iWeb users basically have a year to figure out another host for their websites. |
