After much waiting, ever since the announcement at WWDC back in early June, Apple today launched the Mac OS X update - Lion (10.7). The update is available as an upgrade to Snow Leopard Users (10.6.6) for $29.99 (roughly Rs. 1,350). The update can be downloaded directly to your Intel compatible Macs running Core 2 Duo, i3, i5, i7 or Xeon processors, directly through the web. The update size is 4GB, which is roughly the same as an HD movie. The download should take approximately 10 hours to complete on a 1 Mbps connection. For those without broadband access, Apple is offering downloads at Apple retail stores. Mac OS X Lion update includes 250+ features
The new update brings a whole bunch of new features. The most prominent ones include the ability to resume applications after restarting or closing a particular application and documents being auto saved in real time. AirDrop is a new wireless file transfer system which makes moving data between Macs simpler. For those who bought Mac systems from authorized dealers after the 6th of June 2011, the upgrade will be available for free. Specific details on the upgrade for these users is available on Apple’s Up-To-Date Program page.
