Apple Might Make One OS for iPad and Mac

Microsoft has been trumpeting that there should be no software differences between the tablet and the PC. However, Apple's success with the iPad has been on the premise that there are limits to its capabilities compared to a desktop or a laptop. The most recent update to Mac OS X , now includes some gesture capabilities for the trackpad that are similar to those of the iPad. This has led securities and investment firms, (who also conduct research in the technology industry) Jefferies to report that Apple might combine the operating system for its computers and tablet by 2016.

Might have the same OS as your Mac computer in 2016

Jefferies says that work will begin on this operating system next year and will be ready by 2016. "We believe Apple is looking to merge iOS (iPhones/iPads) with OS X (Macs) into a single platform for apps and cloud services starting in 2012-13," Jefferies writes. "Our preliminary view is that Apple can use a 32-bit ARM architecture to address the vast majority of the OS X ecosystem's needs in 2012-13 except for high-end professional devices. When 64-bit ARM is available in 2016, we believe Apple will have a single OS and hardware architecture."

Microsoft has already been using the same operating system, Windows 7, on both PCs and tablets.
