BPL Introduces Mobile Tracker Solution

13 Sep, 2007, 6:40 pm IST | by Anjali Rego | Mobile phones

Cellular service provider BPL Mobile has introduced a solution to track down mobile phones that are lost. Called the BPL Mobile Tracker, this solution can not only be availed of by BPL customers but also by any GSM service user.

"With the rapid growth of mobile phone usage in the country, concerns regarding safety and security of handsets and data are on the rise. We at BPL mobile have always focused on bringing forth the best of value-added services for our customers. And this time, with this innovative Mobile Tracker solution, we have opened the gates to all GSM service users. Our sole concern is the safety and security of all mobile users and hence this step,” said S. Subramaniam, CEO, BPL Mobile.

The BPL Mobile Tracker is compatible with all mobile phones that use the Symbian operating system. As of now, around 35 medium-to-high-end Symbian handsets can use the BPL Mobile Tracker service. BPL plans to introduce many more handsets that are compatible with the service.

The Mobile Tracker solution, when installed, works in the background . If the phone is stolen, this application detects any change on the SIM card, upon which an SMS is immediately sent to two alternative recipient numbers. The messages are sent automatically without any notification on the phone’s screen. Thus, the mobile phone can be tracked down without the thief's knowledge.

To avail of this service, one needs to visit a BPL Mobile Gallery to get the application installed. You will then have to enter two recipient numbers (such as your spouse’s or friend’s), who will be notified in case your mobile phone gets stolen.

The BPL Mobile Tracker solution carries a one-time cost of Rs.149 with no additional monthly rentals.
