Apple today along with the iPhone, has announced a new Wi-Fi-based set-top box called Apple TV, which will sync to your iTunes list automatically and allow you to view your content from your iTunes list stored on your PC or your Mac. This will work as using Wi-Fi, the content will directly be streaming it directly on your TV to which the Apple Box is connected.

This set-top box is powered by an Intel Processor, and has a 40 GB HDD. It has support for all known Wi-Fi standards, namely 802.11b/g/n and is capable of locking onto 5 PC’s simultaneously. As long as these PC’s are running are running iTunes, the box will auto-synchronize and maintain the list internally. For connecting to TV’s and other display devices, along with network support Apple has included USB 2 slots, Ethernet slots, HDMI, component, audio, and optical out ports. One glaring drawback this product does possess is the lack of 1080p or 1080i support. It only supports 720p, which is an HD resolution but pales in front of 1080p.

While the box's use of Wi-Fi may seem innovative, it's nothing new. There are other products that have been offering this functionality for some time now (Yes I am referring to the Xbox360) like D-Link's wireless media players. The Apple TV box is available now for $299.
