Genius launches world's first battery-free wireless mouse

19 Jan, 2012, 11:57 am IST | by Rossi Fernandes | Mice

We've all heard of wireless mice and all of them use large batteries, which means a number  of things. The battery is heavy and they need to be charged pretty often. If you’re using older mice, then you need to plug in AAA batteries into the mouse every couple of months. Now, Genius has launched something slightly unconventional - a battery-less mouse. No, it doesn’t use some kind of wireless power transfer to charge the mouse, but it does have a capacitor in place of a battery. Capacitors can hold some charge and Genius has one, that can stay charged through a day of use. Genius claims that their new DX-ECO mouse can stay charged for a day’s use after which the mouse’s capacitor could do with some charging, which takes no more than 3 minutes.

The rest of the DX-ECO has everything that you expect from an everyday mouse. It operates at 2.4GHz with Genius claiming an operating range of 15m. Four buttons besides the three standard click buttons. The sensitivity of the mouse’s sensor can be switched between 800 and 1600 using dedicated buttons. Genius hasn’t officially launched the product in India, yet, but it should be selling in the U.S soon at a price of $39.99 (roughly Rs.2,000)
