Airtel Kicks off 3G Services in India

24 Jan, 2011, 3:49 pm IST | by Roshan DSilva | Mobile phones

Bharti Airtel today announced the launch of its 3G services in India. Airtel’s 3G services, which are delivered on the high speed HSPA networks, are ushering in life enriching services in entertainment, utility, commerce and health and now all this is available on the customer’s mobile phone.

Bringing 3G to India

Airtel has already brought the 3G experience to Karnataka and has targeted the launch of the service in all 3G license circles by March 2011. Airtel will also introduce easy to understand tariffs which include personalized date usage limits. It includes time based plans for light users, where usage and billing will be by the hour. There is also be a ‘Flexi-shield’ plan for heavy users, where usage and billing will be capped.  This empowers their 3G customers to manage their data usage and helps in preventing ‘bill shocks’ by giving personalized and timely data usage alerts.

Mr. Sanjay Kapoor, CEO - Bharti Airtel Ltd (India & South Asia) said, “It is indeed the start of a new era when 3G services in India roll out on Airtel's network. World over ‘Data traffic’ on the back of high speed internet and use of social networking has already exceeded the ‘Voice traffic’. India is ushering in the domain – though later than most of the world - but no doubt we will catch up at a much faster speed. 3G is much more than a technology migration - it is a transformational shift - and Airtel's focus would be to bring to its customers an enriched user experience on the back of a world class delivery network. I welcome all 745 million mobile customers of the country to be a part of this journey with Airtel!"

For those who want to know more or join Airtel 3G services can do so by visiting www.airtel.in/Airtel-3G. Users can also select the best 3G plan for themselves and can also analyse their internet data usage through the above mentioned site.
