Bulk SMS Banned in lieu of Cricket World Cup Final

With the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 Final between hosts India and Sri Lanka happening in Mumbai tomorrow, the Mumbai Police have been hard at work strengthening security for the game and indeed the mega occasion. Now it looks like they’ve taken another step. Final Finally
In an order addressed to telecom operators, Vodafone in this case, the Mumbai Police have banned bulk SMS’, especially of the promotional kind, from the period starting March 31 to April 2. The order reads, “… there is a likelihood of creation of discontent in the minds of the general public prior to the final match and after the final match is over, which may create a law and order problem”. Bulk SMS have been identified as one of the possible creators, and hence been banned. Order, Order |
