Firefox Coming to Android

Rumor mills started churning about a possible February release of mobile Firefox for Android when German-language blog Camp-Firefox reported the same. The blog based this on an alleged knowledge of Mozilla’s weekly meetings. Firefox for Android might possibly be similar to the Maemo version which features password and download manager and touch-gesturing. According to AdMob Android was the #2 smartphone platform in the US in the fourth quarter of 2009 with a 27 percent share of mobile requests, or exactly half of the 54 percent share belonging to iPhone OS devices. iPhone may dominate the smartphone scene but Android is surging ahead and being available on Android phones will give Firefox a leg up considering the number of Android-based mobile devices on the way.
