Gmail For iPhone and Android Gets an Upgrade

The Gmail application for mobile handsets is a serious boon for all mobile phone users. Considering the iPhone and the Android UI, Google had plenty of room for improvement and enhancements to those specific OS’ Gmail application. The latest news from the search giant is that they’ve updated their Mobile Gmail application for Android powered devices as well as the iPhone.


Some of the improvements in the new version include -
  • Opening emails will now be faster
  • Enhanced navigation for scanning through folders and achieves
  • Even if the network drops, users will be bale to open new mails and compose new ones with the help of caching
  • Multiple archiving, deleting etc will now be available
  • The overall the look and feel of messages themselves has also been upgraded and labels have been designed to look like the PC version
  • The search menu is moved up into the top header, making it more accessible
According to their official Blog, the reason all these improvements were possible is thanks to new HTML5 and Gears technology implemented for caching of data. The new Gmail for mobile only supports iPhone/iPod Touch OS 2.2.1 or above and Android-powered phones are supported. Go to gmail.com from your mobile browser to give it a shot.
