HTC rumoured to be working on a streaming music service

HTC has been knee deep in the Android smartphone game and now that the Taiwanese company has a substantial stake in Beats Audio, there is rumour that HTC is working on a streaming music service for all their handsets and tablets (tablet, actually!). According to sources, HTC is working closely with Jimmy Iovine, Co-Founder of Beats Audio to develop a music streaming service that will be exclusive to HTC phones and tablets. Apparently, HTC have long wanted to launch a service of this sort, but nothing really materialized, until now. Both firms are still in the planning stage, figuring out the pricing and other details.

A new music service in the works?

HTC tried something similar with Spotify in the past, but that didn’t really lead them anywhere. The source further adds that HTC may just unveil this new service, as early as this month, so we could look forward to something at MWC. HTC will also be announcing a bunch of new smartphones, some of which we already know of, like the Edge and Ville and they’ll also be unveiling a tablet. We guess it will be the HTC Puccini that surfaced months back. LTE will be the buzz word at this Mobile World Congress, since many carriers, like Verizon and AT&T have already rolled out in the U.S.  HTC is facing stiff competition from low-cost Chinese handset makers like Huawei and ZTE Corp. While Samsung and Sony Ericsson are applying pressure in the high-end segment, this is their attempt to differentiate their products from the rest of the competition and in doing so, gain a competitive edge.
