MediaTek announced the launch of their MT6573 3G platform. MediaTek has worked on the MT6573 keeping in mind the demand in emerging markets for cheaper 3G smartphones. MediaTek feels that currently, users are willing to sacrifice performance and features for the sake of getting cheaper handsets. MediaTek hopes to bring performance and features to affordable smartphones The new SoC platform supports the latest versions of the Google Android OS and has a 7.2 Mbps 3G functionality built into it. The processor used is a 650 MHz ARM11, which supports 3G and 30 fps video playback, support for upto a 8 MP camera and a touchscreen phone. The standard features such as Bluetooth, WiFi, GPS, FM radio are also present along with a Mobile TV feature from MediaTek.One of the interesitng capabilities of the MT6573 platform is the 3D graphics capabilities which is something that isn’t expected on cheaper platforms. If all goes well, MediaTek should have a winner on its hands. MediaTek is a Taiwanese company founded in 1997 and has its business focus on wireless communications and multimedia solutions. |
